Dave Brown

Location: University Park, PA

Dave Brown received his undergraduate education at Hastings College in Hastings, Nebraska, where he graduated Cum Laude with dual majors in Economics and Computer Science and a minor in Mathematics. In May 2010, Dave received his Ph.D. in Economics from Kansas State University. He currently serves as a lecturer at the Pennsylvania State University in University Park, Pennsylvania. His research interests include Industrial Organization, Applied Microeconomics, and Labor Economics. His completed research has focused on codeshare alliances and mergers in the airline industry. Other published works include media slides to accompany economics textbooks from Norton Publishing. Brown also a strong teaching record. In his short time as a graduate student at Kansas State, he was one of the few graduate students to be allowed to teach multiple sections. While at Kansas State, Brown won the Presidential Award for Teaching Excellence for his outstanding teaching scores and his ability to increase students’ desire to learn. This honor is given to just three faculty members and one graduate student each year in the entire university. Dave also served two terms as the president of Graduate Students in Economics, where he was responsible for organizing fundraisers, guest lecture visits, and social events for the students in the department. At Penn State, Dave is responsible for the very large lecture sections of principles classes, and also teaches at the intermediate level. Each semester, he enjoys teaching 800 - 1,200 students. During his first year at Penn State, Dave won the department teaching award. Numerous students have decided to major or minor in Economics after completing his principles course.
