Dolly Shot in Vagabond

An early scene from Agnès Varda's Sans toit ni loi follows the main character, Mona (Sandrine Bonnaire). Traveling by foot and sleeping outside in a tent through the winter, Mona is both untethered and unprotected. In the direct address dialogue from the mechanic, he says: "When she showed up, she had a big backpack. She was looking for work. For 30 francs, I gave her a car to wash. Got her hands clean, at least. I would have let her pump gas, but I didn't trust her. Female drifters, all alike, just loafers and men-chasers."
