dialogue in Breathless (Godard, 1960)

by The Cine-Files

Breathless embodies nearly all of the characteristics that would become associated with the French New Wave. It uses handheld cameras to capture the on-location scenes with natural lighting. Its narrative is told episodically, with many scenes characterized by inconsequential dialogue that does nothing to further the plot, but contributes to the film’s young, playful feel.
