You're the Top (1934)

by Nicholas Sammond

From the 1934 musical "Anything Goes", this song is about a man and a woman who take turns complimenting each other, using the most valuable things they can think of (in the context of 30s American society) to compare one another to. Significantly, one of the comparisons he draws is between the woman and Mickey Mouse, still very much in its beginning stages, thus clearly indicating the influence of the animation.
