Thugs With Dirty Mugs

by Nicholas Sammond

This 1939 WB short is a parody of an E.G. Robinson gangster pic. Typical of studio use of cartoons to push their other products, the film also is a useful example of how the actual interplay between the screen and real audiences in the 1920s has been internalized with the coming of sound in the 1930s. See also The Film Fan (1939).

A parody of an E.G Robinson film is highly self-referential.
