The Cobweb Hotel (1936)

by Nicholas Sammond

The Cobweb Hotel is run by a villainous spider, whose hotel ("for flies only") is a trap for its guests. When two newly married flies come to the hotel, they figure out the spider's plan and manage to try to fight back. The husband escapes and almost loses to the spider in combat, saved by the rest of the guests who have been freed by his wife. Interestingly, the cobweb hotel is completely set in the shelves and desk of, presumably, an animator, following a frequent practice in early animation of linking cartoon and real space. The spider is in fact finally defeated with pen and ink, the materials from which it was created.
