Snow White

by Nicholas Sammond

This 1933 Fleischer short features Cab Calloway as Ko-Ko, singing St. James Infirmary Blues. It fantacizes African American life and culture as a dangerous yet desirable underworld, playing on the ambivalence of stereotype. Note also the minstrel face in the Queen's mirror.
