Shirley Q. Liquor

by Nicholas Sammond

Chuck Knipp plays the drag role of Shirley Q Liquor in this short clip which details her talking about white people on TV, and her subsequent feelings about them. Knipp's performance of this alter-ego caricaturizes the idea of a Southern, black woman, and this imaginary embodiment is accomplished through his dress-up, speaking in Ebonics and putting on blackface. In this overwrought impersonation, Shirley talks about the only white characters she relates to on TV, and the this clip ends with her expressing sadness towards the state of apathy people have towards poverty in life.
