Magical Maestro

by Nicholas Sammond

This 1952 Tex Avery short features not only a play with the boundary between the real and ideal (watch for the hair in the projector gate), but also deploys a range of racist stereotypes in the service of humiliating the main character. Thus, it is another example of the linking of race and humor to abasement.
