I Am Sitting In A Room

by Nicholas Sammond

This performance piece features composer Alvin Lucier sitting in a room and reciting a text, which is then played back into the room, the echo of which is re-recorded. This process repeats until the words fade and echoes of the room come to the forefront. The iterations of the narration open up several question about echo, callback and meaning within the context of multiple forms of media (film, animation, music): how does repetition, movement, gesture and address of audience give rise to both further storytelling as well as the disruption of meaning? How are the gestures of the body related to the broader movements/gestures of and within space?
