Hollywood Capers

by Nicholas Sammond

In this Looney Toons cartoon, Beans the Cat tries to get into the Warner Bros Studios, but is thrown out. He gets in by pretending to be Oliver Hardy, and finds his way backstage to where Oliver Owl is directing a short musical film. He disrupts the entire set and is thrown out, when he then stumbles across Frankenstein's monster. He accidentally brings it to life and they chase each other around the studio, causing more havoc. Beans the Cat finally discovers a huge fan which he uses to destroy Frankenstein. The short forefronts the importance of Hollywood and "the studio" during this time in American motion picture and, importantly, cartoon history. The cartoon also figures the studio as a place of dangerous and almost vengeful animation against its creator, much like the focus on the out of control characters brought to life by individual animators in earlier animation.
