Dinah - Fleischer Screen Songs

by Nicholas Sammond

This Screen Songs Fleischer short features the Mills Brothers's song Dinah - which includes a bouncing-ball sing a-long segment, opened by a lively jazz cartoon featuring a variety of animals efficiently working aboard a ship. The Mills Brothers supply the fluid sounds of the cartoon image, harnessing a sense of depth and effortless rhythm, off set by the transformative visual images which teleport their image into being along with the lyrics of the song. A romantic love song to Dinah Lee, the harmonizations give way to oceanic cartoon images, contorting waves and battling lightning which struggle for control of the ship.

This Screen Songs Fleischer series features the bouncing-ball sing-a-long, as well as an animate cartoon section, full of eccentric animals.
