Bamboozled Indefinite Speech

by Nicholas Sammond

This clip from the 2000 Spike Lee movie Bamboozled features the lead characters Mantan (named after the actor Mantan Moreland) and Sleep 'n' Eat (named after the stereotypical propensities of the minstrel) performing a routine that features indefinite speech. Indefinite speech performs a fantasy of telepathic communication between minstrels, and also suggests an opacity to white understandings of speech and communication. Compare with Shadracks.

Bamboozled: Indefinite Speech

A minstrel routine in which language is reworked and a telepathic bond suggested.
