Set It Off

by Philana Payton

This scene uses one of the most famous scenes in The Godfather as a familiar crime reference. However, Set It Off inherently subverts this reference by having Black women at center. Overall, it challenges conceptualizations around race, gender, and sexuality by appropriating this familiar style.
