2.x5 Broken Lullaby

During the early 1930s, Paramount released a number of films featuring zooms (probably, as Nick Hall suggests, relying on silent-era technology). Although some hoped that the zoom would replace the cumbersome crane, the zoom never could fulfill that promise. A crane is capable of moving left, right, in, out, up, and down; the zoom has but two directions—in and out. (Excerpt from The Dynamic Frame, Chapter Two)
