Rear projection in Written on the Wind

by Oliver Gaycken

In this scene from Written on the Wind, rear projection is being used to simulate the view behind the car's rear window. This use of rear projection has become a cliché; Quentin Tarantino's Pulp Fiction, for example, cites the convention by using a black-and-white rear projection shot in an otherwise color image.
