Outside of two communities

by Kate Fortmueller

Tongues Untied addresses many of the complexities of living in and between two communities that are unaccepting of black gay men. In this sequence Riggs assembles images, footage of Eddie Murphy's homophobic stand-up, and poetry (read by Essex Hemphill) to demonstrate how these issues are societal and cultural.
