In Maria Tatar's chapter, "The Killer as Victim: Fritz Lang's M," she mentions that Lang structures Elsie's death as an absence (which serves as a counterpoint to Grosz and Dix's paintings and drawings). This drawing of a beheaded woman illustrates her point.
