Sci-fi melodrama meets the avant-garde

by Kate Fortmueller

The final sequence of L'inhmaine clearly demonstrates the relationship between sci-fi and melodrama in the film. A snake bites Clair Nescot and in the final moments of the film Einar Norsen has to bring her back to life in his Léger designed lab. His lab features strong geometric lines with a swinging pendulum.
