Impressionism in Blancanieves (part II)

by Kate Fortmueller

Blancanieves, like The Artist (2011), is a special breed of postmodern silent film. These films use the language of silent film, make numerous references to silent films, but make liberal use of developments in filmmaking and technology that would not have been available to silent filmmakers (note the handheld camera footage in this sequence). This sequence uses a number of visual techniques from the silent era including binocular point-of-view shots and superimposition (the skull over the apple).

Blancanieves (2012) - The Poisoned Apple

In this sequence Encarna poisons an apple and kills Carmen (Blancanieves).
