Montage and Blancanieves

by Kate Fortmueller

Pablo Berger has admitted to a number of silent era and European film influences in Blancanieves. In this sequence Berger uses montage to show a bull attacking Antonio Villalta. Rather than seeing the bull attack Villalta this montage creates the tension of an attack through rapid cuts, unusual angles, Villalta's facial expressions, and the response of the audiences.

For CTCS 200 students:

Are there other examples of montage in this film?  When? Why do you think Berger uses montage in those moments?
