Negative Externalities

by James Tierney

When we teaching negative externalities we usually start with smoking and pollution. Those are both great examples but we should also be bringing in everyday examples like when individuals are just plane old annoying to us. This is a great example of negative externalities that most students run into, especially if they are living in an apartment or a dorm.

The Big Bang Theory -- Negative Exernalities

When Sheldon learns that the neighbors above their apartment will move out, he list the negative externalities that they didn't produce. He begins to fear that the next neighbor won't be as kind to him and produce negative externalities.
