Utility Misprediction in "Frozen"

by Charity-Joy Acchiardo

In a short sequence from the 2013 animated film “Frozen”, (produced by Walt Disney Animation Studios), Olaf the snowman talks about his love of Summer. Though Kristoff suggests that Olaf lacks experience of heat, Olaf still bursts into a song of praise for Summer, blissfully unaware of its potential effects. He imagines how much "cooler" he'd feel when he would do "all the things that frozen things do in Summer". Were Olaf to take a decision based on this mispredicted utility, he would end up with lower utility levels than he would if he had known better. Indeed, Olaf would make a distorted decision that would effectively reduce him to a puddle.
