Bias Blindness in "Homer Goes to College"

by Charity-Joy Acchiardo

In this clip from The Simpsons’, “Homer Goes to College”, Homer celebrates his graduation from high-school. He lights his certificate on fire, believing he will not need it anymore and sings “I am so smart, S-M-R-T”. The act (as many of Homer’s) can be seen as a case of bias-blindness – in this case to the impact of his short-termism and optimism bias.
