Clip 2 - Paprika

Paprika frequently plays with the notion of the frame as a window into another space; in this scene, Paprika (Chiba’s alter ego) escapes the villainous chairman and his accomplice Osanai by jumping into Gustave Moreau’s 1864 painting Oedipus and the Sphinx. Beyond merely demarcating represented space, the frames in the film represent boundaries within and between dreams and serve as crucial markers of mediation.
