The firm in "Who Shot Mr. Burns Part I" (The Simpsons)

In order to make even more money, Mr. Burns tries to eliminate all substitutes for electrical power by blocking out the sun. His plan succeeds, and this means that Springfield residents have to turn on their lights during the day and use more electricity. Since Mr. Burns's self interest is not checked by market forces the end result is not beneficial for the community.
