Marginal Analysis in "A Civil Action"
by Dirk Mateer `

John Travolta stars as a trial lawyer who brings suit against two corporations accused of causing wrongful deaths by dumping toxic pollution. The scenes illustrate the concept of externalities. The health affects created by the toxins are a negative externality. However, proving this in court is difficult and this causes the law firm that Travolta works out to initially reject taking on the case before ultimately signing on -- this is an excellent discussion of trade-offs.
