Incentives in "The Cyber House Rules" - Futurama
by Dirk Mateer `

Bender decides to adopt ten kids to get the subsidy from the government. He thinks he can profit from each of the adoptions but he eventually discovers that each kid is costing him more per month than the subsidy he earns from the government. This scene illustrates perverse incentives. Bender doesn't really care about the kids, all he cares about is profit. The scene also shows how incentives can create unintended consequences since the subsidy encourages people to adopt who may not really care about children.
