Abel García Roure's Una cierta verdad

by Benjamin Fraser

In this clip, the patient Javier speaks with an outpatient liaison and disagrees fundamentally with the power structure and the forced medications that Josep represents as a professional affiliated with the Taulí hospital in Barcelona. On display throughout the film are the human consequences of the medical paradigm that still provides inadequate care for populations living with forms of mental illness. The film is a dialogic masterpiece and ends with Javier's punctuating and symbolic use of the phrase "Una cierta verdad".
