This sequence from David Fincher's "Zodiac" shows the construction of the iconic Transamerica Pyramid building in San Francisco. It was achieved entirely through CGI effects, but was animated in a style that simulates / creates the illusion of traditional time-lapse photography. The construction of the building does not relate to the actual narrative of "Zodiac." Instead, it is used to signal the passage of time—a very specific and identifiable period (1969-1972)—and to elucidate on the Bay Area setting of the based-on-true-events story.
