A year passes in a couple of minutes in Roger Michell's "Notting Hill," with the help of visual effects and compositing work to create the illusion of a single tracking shot following lead Hugh Grant through the market. The sequence expediently compresses the character's solitude in singledom over an extended period of time—he walks alone through the alleyways—and is set to Bill Withers' "Ain't No Sunshine" in order to drive home the point.
