Commentaries on this Media!

by Danny Baldwin

In this clip from "Notting Hill," William Thacker (Hugh Grant) and Anna Scott (Julia Roberts) self-reflexively discuss the nitty-gritty of nudity clauses in Hollywood actor contracts. Clearly, the script is toying with Julia Roberts' star image, as she speaks of fellow actors' (i.e. Mel Gibson's) nudity clauses while in character. The scene is part of a longstanding tradition of Hollywood making fun of itself, which was especially prominent in the comedies of the 1990s.
