In this scene from "Lawrence of Arabia," T.E. Lawrence (Peter O'Toole) is beaten by his captors, with the lead up to the physical torture almost as inexorable as the torture itself. The site of the wound is never shown; instead, filmmaker David Lean's camera focuses on Lawrence's face, and his captors' reactions (including a particularly sinister smile). Ali (Omar Sharif) lingers in the distance, picking Lawrence up sans dialogue when he is tossed out of captivity, before the film quickly dissolves to later on their journey.
