This product placement for the Sony PS Vita handheld gaming console is not incredibly unusual—like product placements dating back to the 1950s, it's positioned in the domestic space and the function of the product is made clear—but it boasts definite markings of a post-network era TV show. Most prominently, it reflects Sony's vertical integration; not only does the company make consoles on which you can stream Netflix (the first-window rights holder of "House of Cards), they also own the DVD distribution rights to the show through their Home Entertainment division. Furthermore, Sony Television will produce an upcoming show for Netflix from the creators of "Damages."
