A self-hating, half Chicano border patrol agent goes undercover as an undocumented worker to expose the limits of US border enforcement when a coyote sells him into virtual slavery on a meth-making plantation.  The Gate Keeper thus represents a sort of speculative fiction reflecting on the extreme, coercive labor conditions encountered by migrant workers.
