An Early Form of Quality TV

This campy horror aesthetic is a recurring trope in Twin Peaks, a show that combines the melodrama and crime drama with surreal aesthetics and dream logic. Drawing on the work of cultural theorist Jason Mittell, we can read this scene as an example of "Quality TV," a category motivated by an “operational aesthetic" and a complex narrative structure.
