Virtual camera and virtual embodiment

by Critical Commons Manager

This centerpiece sequence from James Cameron's Avatar exemplifies numerous tropes of virtual reality as it has been imagined on the screens of Hollywood, but it also showcases the conjoined techniques of virtual cinematography and motion capture pioneered by this film. Part of what makes this sequence remarkable is the use of an extremely dynamic virtual camera that moves around a scene that is seamlessly composed of a combination of computer-generated and lens-based imagery when the telepresent embodiment of a virtual character is achieved.
