TV as mind control technology

by Critical Commons Manager

Why did such blunt critiques of the power elite in American political and economic culture seem to end with the 1970s? In Agency, a classic paranoid narrative about mind control through subliminal advertising also manages to indict the power elite that would rule both the government and economy through television. Although Agency presents an overly blunt and literal critique, which breaks no new ground in demonizing television through its advertisements, one can't help but miss the sentiment of resistance and systems analysis exemplified by the Lee Majors character in contemporary mass culture.
