Computer warfare on Star Trek

by Critical Commons Manager

In one of many instances when Captain Kirk breaks the Prime Directive by interfering in planetary evolution, he and First Officer Spock destroy a bank of computers used for simulated warfare between two planets. The war games carried out by the computer have allowed the two planets to sustain over 500 years of active warfare, in which simulated attacks result in planetary residents voluntarily submitting to dearth by "dematerialization." Kirk and Spock ultimately destroy the entire computer network responsible for the simulations and compel the two planets to negotiate a peace agreement.
