Supercut as film analysis

by Critical Commons Manager

Although supercuts are primarily associated with playful internet memes, the recent series of videos by anonymous remixer Kogonada demonstrate their utility for serious film and television analysis. Merging fannish obsessiveness with critical formal awareness, these videos invite viewers to filter their future perceptions of the original works differently. These supercuts may be understood as activating a form of "algorithmic pleasure" whereby viewers slip seamlessly between pleasure in units of narrative meaning and formal structures mapped across a body of work.
