Cinematic depictions of gamers

by Critical Commons Manager

Cinema's history of condescending depictions of gamers reaches a new low (or is it a high?) with this scene from The Parallax View. The inclusion of a Pong video console in 1974 would have signified a high-tech lab equipped with the latest in gaming technology (Atari's arcade version of the game was released in 1972 followed by a home console in 1975). The idea of using these games for primate research in the early 70s represents a particularly prescient view of the potentials of games for psychology.
