The future of sex looks like the psychedelic 1970s

by Critical Commons Manager

In Michael Anderson's sci-fi 70s allegory, an enigmatic domestic cybersex technology called "the circuit" allows citizens to transport randomly into the homes of other prospective sex partners. Like a pre-internet era version of fully embodied Chat Roulette, the circuit offers a form of virtual cruising and immediate gratification for participants both gay and straight. When a girl selected by sandman Michael York turns out to be more interested in challenging social norms than in casual sex, she takes her first opportunity to escape, leaving York to indulge in conventional, group sex behind a cloud of pink smoke.
