Authenticity and location

by Critical Commons Manager

This unbelievably terrible gun battle was shot entirely on location at a beach house in Long Beach, CA, using the real world affordances of the house and its surroundings to shape the narrative events. Although shooting a scene like this in the studio would have resulted in greater control of narrative space, details such as the rickety stairs leading up to the rear of the house and the driftwood bench in the sand are used to add authenticity and texture. Location-based authenticity and texture, however, do not compensate for deficiencies of writing, acting, or directing.
