Inception as paradigm for world building and interface

by Critical Commons Manager

Christopher Nolan's Inception presents a useful and inventive cinematic vision of world-building as a paradigm for storytelling via a shared, biological interface. Ultimately, as the narrative progresses, the film is more concerned with nested timelines, but its initial framing focuses on the articulation, perception and destruction of space. The technologized interface that permits entry to the nested dream worlds of Inception are a fundamentally hybrid biological-technical apparatus that merges the logic of the unconscious with cinematic conventions of virtual reality, especially relating to the tenuous relationship of the virtual and physical worlds.
