Urban landscape become silicon

by Critical Commons Manager

The urban landscape of Manhattan morphs into a computer circuit board in the opening title sequence of Iain Softley's Hackers. Interestingly, given the topic of the movie, Softley eschewed nearly all computer generated imagery for the film's visual effects sequences, relying on more traditional animation and rotoscoping techniques instead. This sequence's merging of urban and digital environments sets the stage for the film's narrative that presciently positions youthful hackers as singularly mobile users of computer networks that are still linked to physical infrastructure via pay phones and dialup modems.
