A photocollage of typographical frames by Godard

by Critical Commons Manager

Designer Christian Annyas has created numerous photocollages of film frames showing the typography of Jean-Luc Godard and other filmmakers, as well as similarly striking collages of title design and typography in films going back to the silent era. These still images, seen on his website "Movie Title Stills Collection" may be understood as creative distillations of the vast database that comprises typography in cinema. How differently do we understand these images when rendered in static form in a designed plane rather than as temporal events within a cinematic and narrative flow?
