A life relived on video

by Critical Commons Manager

This centerpiece sequence from the Robin Williams vehicle The Final Cut shows what editing looks like in the Hollywood imaginary. Just as similar sequences in technology films struggle to make computer programming 'watchable,' this scene illustrates the conjunction of computational intelligence with human interpretation; the construction of narrative through individual experiences invariably embedded in shared tropes of human existence; the inadequacy of the single frame; memory merged with video to reconstruct a life.
