Image manipulation and historical fabrication

by Critical Commons Manager

This example of photo-compositing combines two photographs taken at different times and places in order to construct or reinforce a historical narrative condemning the anti-war activities of a Democratic presidnetial nominee. The picture of John Kerry shows him preparing to give a speech at the Register for Peace Rally in New York on June 13, 1971. The picture of Jane Fonda was taken more than a year later at a political rally in Miami, FL where the Republican National Convention would be held in 1972. The doctored image was originally published in the Washington Post and distributed by AP Photo.
