Supercomputers on network TV comedy

by Critical Commons Manager

On I Dream of Jeannie, a room-sized supercomputer credited with the ability to "answer any question" is immediately imagined to offer the solution to dating. ERIC is played by a Scientific Data Systems Sigma 7 mainframe computer, which was unusual in being still current at the time this episode aired in 1965. The SDS Sigma series was retired a few years later when the company was bought by Xerox, which left the mainframe computing business shortly after.
