Human and computer switch places in 2001

by Critical Commons Manager

In this heartbreaking, climactic scene from Kubrick's 2001, human and computer have effectively traded places as astronaut Dave Bowman systematically and relentlessly deactivates the cognitive functions of the artificial intelligence computer HAL 9000, which had previously attempted to kill him. The computer pleads for his life as his mental capacities rapidly diminish, ultimately reverting to a childlike state, reciting lines from his initial demo before ceasing to function altogether.
